Official and Osaka tourism information place the hotel about three minutes from Osaka Metro Namba and roughly one minute from the Dotonbori/Glico-sign area.

That means the premium is easiest to defend when the last 20 minutes of the night are repeatedly spent in Minami. If dinner ends late, someone makes one more drugstore stop and everyone is carrying shopping bags, a short final walk is a benefit you reuse every evening. If the trip is mostly Kyoto, Kobe, Himeji or north-Osaka days, the same location premium becomes less persuasive.

For three friends, the equal-bed advantage is real, but the 27 m² does not expand when the third bed arrives. Hotel Royal Classic Osaka's official Standard Twin is 30–31 m² with two 120 cm beds; the 31 m² type can take three guests. The hotel is directly connected to Osaka Metro Namba via Exit 12 and is about a four-minute walk from Nankai Namba. That makes it a different kind of purchase from Cross: less “one more late-night Dotonbori lap,” more “do not make arrival and departure harder than necessary.”

Royal Classic's value is strongest when the Namba/KIX end of the trip repeats a real luggage problem.

For three adults, however, occupancy is not enough information. “Can accommodate three” does not tell three friends whether the third sleeping position is equivalent to the first two for the exact rate being sold. Check the room-plan wording and bed arrangement before the free-cancellation deadline. If the third person is paying the same share but getting a visibly inferior setup, two rooms can be socially cheaper even if the invoice is higher.

Hotel Keihan Namba Grande's official Bunk Bed Room is 44 m². Four guests get four fixed beds across two bunk-bed units; a fifth guest can use an extra bed. More important than the headline area, the room has a double washbasin, a bathroom with a washing area, an in-room drum washer-dryer, IH hob, oven-microwave and fridge/freezer.

Two basins do not double shower capacity, but they let several morning tasks happen at the same time.

For a four-night shopping trip, the washer-dryer is not a decorative amenity. It lets the group reduce dirty-clothes accumulation and gives you a way to recover from rain, summer humidity or a smaller packing list. The hidden cost is that one shower remains one shower. If all four travellers insist on showering immediately before departure, two connecting rooms may beat one 44 m² room even if everyone likes the idea of staying together.

Exactly four after 1 September 2026: MIMARU is the strongest anti-queue layout

MIMARU Osaka Shinsaibashi Central is scheduled to open on 1 September 2026. Its official Two-Bunkbed Apartment is currently listed at 40 m² for four guests with two bunk beds, two washbasins, two shower rooms, one toilet and an in-room washer-dryer. The hotel is also listed about two minutes from Shinsaibashi Station.

Two shower rooms are the important specification here: they change the morning's serial time.

For four friends with similar wake-up times, I would choose this layout over a larger one-shower room even if the latter wins on square metres. The exception is important: as of this guide's fact check on 27 August 2026, the property has not opened yet. MIMARU explicitly says room photos are references and layouts can change. Treat this as a pre-opening floor-plan decision, not a stay review, and re-check the bookable room after opening.

One large room vs two Twins: calculate the split premium per person

Do not assume one group room is automatically the value option. On your dates, calculate:

Room-split premium per person = (price of two Twin rooms − price of one group room) ÷ number of travellers.

Then ask what that premium buys: a second shower, a second toilet, more luggage floor, different sleep times and the ability for one pair to leave early without waking everyone. If the premium is small, two Twins can be better value even when the total room bill is higher. If the premium is large and the one-room layout already has four real beds, two basins and adequate shower capacity, staying together becomes more defensible.

This is why I would not publish one permanent yen threshold: Osaka room rates move heavily by date. Compare the exact occupancy, tax, breakfast and cancellation terms, keep the Japanese-yen total visible, and if you are budgeting in US dollars use the live conversion shown by your card or booking platform rather than treating a static exchange rate as part of the hotel.

When this entire shortlist is wrong

If Kyoto, Kobe or Himeji dominates the itinerary, repeated JR access can matter more than late-night Minami. If USJ occupies two full days, Universal City may remove more total friction than any double sink here. And if the group has one traveller with a very different sleep or bathroom routine, the correct answer may simply be two rooms.
