This is not a half-day immersive attraction. The official reference visit is about one hour; allow 60–90 minutes if you want to study the clay models and production material, try the interactive sections, then browse the shop. The ¥2,200 adult ticket makes most sense for Pingu fans and anyone interested in stop-motion animation. If you only want one character photo or the merchandise, it is hard to justify a special trip.

GO
Go if you like Pingu, stop-motion animation or behind-the-scenes production material, or if you already need a compact indoor stop between Tokyo Station, Marunouchi and Ginza.
CONDITIONAL GO
It can work for families and casual character fans, but the value drops if your main goal is only the giant Pingu photo spots. In that case, combine it with a Ginza or Marunouchi plan rather than building the day around it.
SKIP
Skip it if you only want the shop, expect a large theme-park-style immersive exhibition, or already have a packed Tokyo schedule. The merchandise area cannot be entered separately; you must hold a ticket and finish the exhibition first.
Dates, current opening hours and ticket prices
Run: July 10–September 6, 2026, with no scheduled closure during the Tokyo run.
From August 1: regular days 10:00–19:30, last admission 19:00; weekends and Japanese public holidays 10:00–21:00, last admission 20:30.
Tickets: general/university ¥2,200, junior-high/high-school ¥1,650, elementary ¥550; preschool children are free when accompanied by a guardian.
Timed entry: as of August 17, the remaining timed-entry dates are September 5 and 6. Same-day ticket availability can vary, and purchased tickets cannot be changed, cancelled or refunded.

What does ¥2,200 actually buy you?
The strongest part of the exhibition is not the oversized character displays. It is the concentration of real animation-production material: clay models used in production, early studio records, storyboards and material showing how Pingu’s mouth shapes, expressions and movements were built frame by frame.
Priority 1: clay models and production material
The models are small and not designed as spectacle. Look closely at materials, seams, replacement expressions and how a simple movement is broken into many frames. If you have only 60 minutes, spend the largest share of it here.

Priority 2: Pingu language, expressions and movement
The interactive zone turns Pingu language, gestures and facial expression into hands-on content. It is useful for visitors who have never thought about how stop-motion performance works. You do not need to queue for every station; choose the ones that best demonstrate movement or expression.

Priority 3: giant Pingu and collaboration displays
The giant Pingu, Pingu Dance and Tatsuo Tanaka collaboration are good photo and finale sections, but they should not replace the production material earlier in the route. When time is tight, cut one photo queue rather than rushing the clay models.
Photomatic: is the extra ¥1,000 worth it?
The on-site Photomatic offers six Pingu-limited frames. ¥1,000 includes two printed photos plus still-image and video data. It is an easy add-on if you normally keep character-event photos; otherwise it is entirely optional and adds nothing essential to the exhibition itself.

Merchandise: set a budget before you enter
There are more than 100 official items. A budget-based approach is more useful than memorising the catalogue.
¥330–990: postcards, clear files, stickers and selected keychains — the easiest range for one small souvenir.
¥1,100–2,750: towels, figures, small goods and MINI plush toys — the range where spending climbs quickly.
¥3,850 and up: BASIC Pingu plush ¥3,850 and adult T-shirts ¥4,620; decide before the shop whether you really want to carry a larger item for the rest of the day.

Custom merchandise needs about 20 extra minutes
The build-your-own flake-seal set is ¥1,650. Custom keyboard keychains use ¥440 keycaps plus a ¥110 chain, so the final price depends on how many pieces you choose. The official reference production time is about 20 minutes; do not start this at the end if you have a dinner reservation or train to catch.

Important one-way rule: the shop is only accessible after the exhibition. Once you leave the exhibition area, you cannot go back; once you leave the shop, you cannot re-enter. Finish any photos or model-checking before moving into merchandise.
Families, strollers and luggage: deal with these before entry
Strollers: not allowed inside the exhibition area, but they can be left at the museum cloakroom.
Toilets, nursing and changing: the museum itself does not provide them; use Tokyo International Forum facilities before joining the entry flow.
Luggage: there are no coin lockers inside the museum, but large bags and suitcases can be left at the cloakroom.
Photography: photos and video are allowed, but no flash. Tripods, selfie sticks or large cameras may be restricted if they inconvenience other visitors.
The easiest 2–3 hour plan around Yurakucho
JR Yurakucho Station is about one minute away. From Tokyo Station, the official route via the Keiyo Line underground connection is about five minutes; Ginza, Hibiya, Nijubashimae and Kyobashi are also within roughly 5–7 minutes on foot.
Evening version
17:00 enter → around 18:00 move into the shop → leave around 18:30 → walk to Ginza for dinner. The August extended hours make this workable even on regular weekdays.
Daytime version
Lunch around Tokyo Station or Marunouchi → 13:30 entry → leave around 15:00 → Ginza café or shopping. Add another 20–30 minutes if you read every production panel or make custom merchandise.
Final verdict
GO: you like Pingu, stop-motion or production design and can give the exhibition 60–90 focused minutes.
CONDITIONAL GO: you are a casual fan but already plan to be around Tokyo Station, Marunouchi or Ginza, or need an indoor weather backup.
NO-GO: you only want merchandise or giant-character photos, or expect a large immersive attraction.
If 100% Doraemon & FRIENDS Tokyo is on the same trip, lock its date, core time window and exit plan first. That can change which hotel base or route in this guide makes the most sense.
